Margaret E. Barber is not a
well known name inside or outside the Christian circle. Though her
name is found in "Streams in the Desert", that may be the extent of
her "fame". She was a missionary, but did not leave behind grand
historical marks like David linvingston, or Hudson Taylor. The scope
of her work was limited to a small village in foochow, China. She
could never echo the words of John Wesley:"I look upon all the world
as my parish". She was a hymn writer, but unlike Charles Wesley and
issac Watts, her hymn are not found in most Christian hymn books.
She loved the Lord and had a mature spiritual life, but unlike jon
Tayler, Madame Guyou, and Adnrew Murray, she did not leave any Moody
Classics behind. |
