COUNSELS
FOR YOUNG BELIEVERS

Taken
from a tract given out by Surrey Chapel, Norwich where Robert Govett and D. M. Panton had
served faithfully for many years
- Let every one know that you are a disciple of
Christ. (Rom.
10:9-10; Matt. 10:32-33)
- Be baptized, and (after examining yourself)
partake regularly of the Lord's Supper. (Acts 2:38-42; Luke 22:19; 1 Cor. 11:24-38)
- Meditate upon a portion of God's Word every day
and pray for light upon it. (Acts 20:32; 1 Pet. 2:2; 2 Tim. 4:13-17)
- Pray constantly, fervently, and especially in
the moment of temptation. (Luke 11:9-13; Luke 22:40; 1 Thes. 5:17; Jas. 5:16-17)
- Cut off every sin, even the least; drop everything
that is doubtful; obey every word of Christ. (1 John 1:6-7; Rom. 14:23; John 14:23)
- Join yourself to Christians, and cultivate
their society alone. (2 Cor. 6:14-18; Eph. 4:12-16;
Acts
2:42, 47; Heb.
10:24, 25)
- Set to work for Christ at once, and keep at
work. (Matt.
25:14-30; Mark 13:34)
- When you fall into sin, confess it at once,
believe it is forgiven because God says so, and go on undiscouraged. (1 John
1:9)
- Watch for your returning Lord, and square all
your life with His Judgment Seat. (Matt. 24:38-44; 2 Cor. 5:9-10)
- . Seek the Prize of your calling, the Kingdom
of God. (Matt.
6:33; Phil. 3:13-15)
